Truth be told #10 – Bad decisions are easy to chew but it’s the consequences that are hard to swallow… Apostle D.
As I raised my daughters to adulthood, I often told them these words: You can only learn 2 way in this world.
1. You can learn by instructions!
OR
2. You can learn by destruction!
My oldest would always say: “Dad, Why can’t you just let me make my own mistakes”? Now that she’s grown and has experienced consequences, I’m most positive she would agree that it was one of the most foolish things she could have ever said.
God’s word tells us in Deuteronomy 30:19. NLT “Today I have given you the choice between life (instructions) and death (destruction) , between blessings (For following instructions) and curses (consequences for not following instructions). Now I call on heaven and earth to witness the choice you make. Oh, that you would choose life, so that you and your descendants might live!
Take note that your decisions whether good or bad will affect you and your descendants. Exodus 34:7 NLT says: I lay the sins of the parents upon their children and grandchildren; the entire family is affected— even children in the third and fourth generations.”
THIS IS KNOWN AS GENERATIONAL CURSES.
I want you to also notice it says it calls on heaven and earth as witness to your decisions. Why? It’s because heaven and earth are waiting to produce your reward.
Heaven produces blessing and curses spiritually and the Earth produces blessing and curses naturally, but know that both are governed by the word (instructions) of God.
TBT Example: If you plant a seed of corn in the earth, the earth is witness and a few weeks later the reward is stalks of corn.
Do we really expect to taste sweet watermelon after planting seeds of cabbage or greens? Sounds foolish right? However this is exactly what we do when we make bad decisions and expect positive results.
What most don’t realize is there is a reward called consequences for the bad decisions we make. Galatians 6:8 says: he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap (Harvest) everlasting life.
Your flesh represents corruption (dirty/unwashed) the dirt of the earth because God made man from the dust/dirt of earth. Simply put follow what your dirt (flesh) is saying to you and you’ll reap destruction but if you follow the Spirit (God’s instructions) which represents Heaven, your reward will be (everlasting life) blessings to you and your descendants that will last. You won’t have to keep taking 2 steps forward and 10 steps backward but perpetual progress without the unnecessary scrapes and bruises of life.
Every day someone makes bad decisions to commit adultery, lie, steal, cheat, fornicate, and I can go on and on but all of it is called sowing to your flesh and the only reward is corruption (decay or decomposition). I believe the only reason why we do it is because the rewards (consequences) don’t always come right away so it gives us a false sense that we got away with it.
It is a known fact that in some foreign countries your reward for stealing is cutting off the hand you stole it with and if you try to run after you steal it, they cut off a foot as well. Guess what the crime rate is in those countries? Very, very low.
Remember in God’s Kingdom it’s: plant the seed, wait the time, and then finally the harvest (your reward). I don’t know about yall but 99.9% of all of my painful experiences can be traced back to me or my parent’s bad decisions.
In my closing remember this choose to learn by instruction rather than destruction because if you learn by destruction, it often means the reconstruction of your life, costing you unnecessary time, and pain.
